Razlog's home run

In the northern part of the Pirin range, in the valley of the Kulina river and set within a beech forest, Kulinoto sits at around 1,400 m, roughly 12 km from the town of Razlog. It is not an international resort and has no wish to be one: above all, it is where the people of Razlog and the neighbouring villages head out into the snow for an unpretentious weekend.

Its charm lies in exactly that simplicity — a run threading through beech trees, two drag lifts and a few small restaurants, all a convenient distance from everything the Razlog–Bansko plateau has to offer.

Slopes & ski area

The domain is compact and friendly, built for short sessions and for those learning to ski.

• The run is served by two "Pomagalski" drag lifts, and its highest point climbs to about 1,600 m (*approximate figures*).
• Snow lingers here until the middle of March, a notable plus for such a modest altitude — the beech forest shelters the cover.
• It is ideal for beginners, children and family skiing; anyone wanting a large domain heads to Bansko, a short way down the Razlog valley.

Check the lift schedule and snow conditions before setting out — the installations are small and may run on weekend hours.

Winter & summer

In winter, Kulinoto is about easy skiing and sledging, followed by a warm meal at the lodge. The surrounding Razlog plateau rounds out the programme with thermal water and top-tier spas.

In summer the Kulina valley becomes ground for hiking and cycling through the beech woods, with access toward the northern ridges of the Pirin. The nearby spa base stays open all year.

Getting there

• By car: Kulinoto lies about 12 km from Razlog, up a mountain road climbing the Kulina valley; the road can be narrow and snowbound in winter — winter tyres are essential.
• As a reference: Sofia to Razlog is roughly 150 km (*approximate* 2h15–3h), then the climb up to the run.
• Local links: regular transport as far as Razlog and Bansko; the final stretch to the piste is usually driven.

Tips

• This is a day slope, not a resort — plan your lodging in Razlog or Bansko and drive up to Kulinoto to ski.
• Come fully equipped — on-slope rental is minimal.
• Make the most of the thermal waters of Razlog and Banya after a day in the snow; they are among Bulgaria's best.
• Check the drag-lift schedule — they may run only at weekends or on demand.
• If you want a large domain, combine with Bansko: it is a few kilometres away and completely changes the scale of the ski day.

Kulinoto — a small ski point in the Pirin

Kulinoto is a very small ski area in the Pirin range, on the lower slopes that climb towards Bansko. It is not a standalone resort but more of a starting point with a single piste — useful for beginners and for anyone wanting a few easy descents without committing to a full day on the mountain. It is a modest spot; honesty requires saying the actual skiing on offer is limited.

The numbers

The area has a single piste served by 2 lifts. Altitude runs from 1400 m at the base to 1600 m at the top. The season runs roughly from December to March depending on snow. There is no night skiing and no terrain park. For serious alpine skiing — long pistes, a gondola, big vertical — the major Bansko ski domain right next door is the natural choice.

Practical

Access is via the Bansko area, one of Bulgaria's best-known ski destinations; from Romania you arrive from the north via Ruse and then south-west. Equipment rental and ski schools are plentiful in Bansko. The most reliable months for snow are January and February. Kulinoto suits an easy, low-cost option for first turns, with the rest of the time naturally spent on the large neighbouring domain and in Bansko's lively après-ski scene.
